Breath Exercise

The first practice of most spiritual traditions begin with the breath. As we can see from the accompanying Qur'anic verses, the pivotal act in the creation of Man was when Allah gave Man life from His Own Breath.

The Qadiri Rifai Sufi Order teaches breath practices handed down from teacher to teacher for over a thousand years. Our practices are designed to unify breath, movement and remembrance of the Divine Attributes in such a way that the nafs is stilled and the Soul is brought into alignment with God.

Breath practice is a very complex and delicate subject and can only be properly instructed by the Shaykhs of the tariqa through direct contact.

Breath practice promotes a healthy body, a clear mind, quiets the emotions and uplifts the Spirit.

Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape. When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."
Qur'an 15:28-29
