Daily Prayer

All Muslims are asked to perform Salat, ritual prayer, five times a day. This is an obligation of the contract between Allah and mankind as prescribed in the Qur'an. Beyond this, for the Sufi there is a deeper element to Salat.

The Sufi sees Salat as a profound spiritual practice. It is used as a way to refocus ones attention and remembrance back to Allah throughout the day. Through the practice of Salat we work towards passing away from everything other than the Remembrance of Allah. The set times and actions of the prayer provide us with an effective framework for this remembrance.

In Salat the Sufi strives to make worship an act of connection and knowing. Allah said through the Prophet (saws), "I was a hidden treasure and I loved to be known, so I created the Universe so that I might be known."

It is through Salat that we first begin the process of knowing what Allah wishes for us.
